U.S. marshals say a person of interest is under arrest in connection with a Bronx house explosion that killed an FDNY battalion chief.
The person of interest was arrested in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, according to U.S. marshals.
The person’s name has not yet been released.
Battalion 19 Chief Michael Fahy, a 17-year veteran of the department, was killed at the scene of the explosion early Tuesday morning.
Officials say crews were first called to the scene around 6:22 a.m. at 305 West 234th Street to investigate a report of a gas leak.
The explosion happened about an hour later inside the two-story home.
It’s still unclear what caused it.
Fire officials say Fahy was struck by debris while coordinating the response outside.
He was transported to New York Presbyterian The Allen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
City and state flags flew at half-staff to honor Fahy.
FDNY members gathered outside New York Presbyterian Hospital to pay tribute to their fallen comrade.
Fahy leaves behind a wife and three children.
Twenty others, including six police officers and nine firefighters, suffered minor injuries in the explosion, mostly by debris.
