The Supreme Court has suspended for six months from active practice the Judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court in River Gee County, George Smith, for willfully humiliating Tax Court Judge Solo Teah.

According to the judgment, Judge Smith is also stripped of all benefits, including salary, fuel, and vehicle, for the duration of his suspension.

The Supreme Court also ruled at the weekend before closing for the March Term of court that Judge Smith commits himself to a special class on ethics and professional conduct at the James A.A. Pierre Judicial Institute for three months.

The case grew out a complaint filed to the Grievance and Ethics Committee by Tax Court Judge Teah on his ill-treatment by Judge Smith.

He is reported to have ordered the arrest, handcuffing and public humiliation of Judge Teah without legal justification.

The high court explained that its judgment is based on the fact that Judge Smith had no legal standing to order the discipline of a fellow judge.
