Clinton, Trump ready for their close-up

0926n-vote_article_main_imageWASHINGTON — U.S. presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off Monday night in the first of three televised debates, discussing the country’s direction and other key issues in an event that could sway a tightening race.

The 90-minute showdown at Hofstra University outside New York City will mark the candidates’ first time sharing the stage for a debate. It will focus on three topics: “America’s direction,” “achieving prosperity” and “securing America.”

Immigration policy will likely be a key point in the first of these sections. Republican nominee Trump has advocated temporarily barring Muslims from entering the U.S., while Democratic rival Clinton opposes any barriers based on race or religion
