The Fourth Estate
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen
Today, I have the single most honor to address our beloved nation, Liberia on an important national subject, the “Prestigious 2016 National Excellence Awards” which is being organized and executed by the National Center for Excellence and Creativity (NCEC).
The National Excellence Awards honors outstanding members of the Liberian society whose exemplary life, professional efforts and personal sacrifices deserve national recognition. The NEAby all accounts is the highest excellence platform that reflects national pride and encourages the pursuit of excellence through its acknowledgment of Liberians of distinction.
In essence, the NEA affords us the opportunity to identify and showcase heroes and heroines, role models whose immeasurable contributions to the pursuit of excellence is worthy of emulation by the country’s young generation.
This national event is held once every two-year. For the first three years, it was held once every year – 2009,2010 & 2011. After the 2011 edition, the event rule changed to be held once every two years. The first in two years was held in 2013. Unfortunately, the 5th edition which should have been held in 2015 did not happen due to the Ebola Health Emergency which affected the entire country and the NCEC contributed immensely to the fight against this scourge. The measure of the devastating effect of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cannot be overemphasized.
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen and Members of the Fourth Estate, the 2016 Edition of the National Excellence Awards will take place on December 16, 2016 at the Paynesville City Hall. All necessary arrangements have been concluded. Meaning, the stage is now set for Liberia’s utmost prestigious event to take place. The red carpet begins at 7:30pm and ends at 8:00pm. The main event runs from 8:00pm to 11:30pm.
This year’s event is tagged “VISION” signifying a defining period in our country’s democratic transition requiring all hands on deck with a focus on patriotism and exemplary leadership deeply embedded in our hearts. It is held under the theme “PATRIOTS AND LEADERS”.
The NCEC is determined to pay keen attention to local content in terms of entertainment. Absolutely, there will be no foreign artists of any repute performing at this year’s event. This is essential because we believe that Liberian entertainment has come of age and must therefore be prioritized. In light of this development, the NCEC is pleased to inform the public that Liberian artists, designers and entertainers both home and abroad will be given similar treatment as was given to foreign artists in previous editions of the NEA including hotel accommodation, assigned vehicles with chauffeurs and compensation. This is intended to further develop the potentials and talents of many young Liberian talents as well as showcase and promote arts and culture of our beloved country.
At this juncture fellow Liberians, let me underscore that this year’s edition of the National Excellence Awards is considered a carol event because it will be held in the month of December. It is no secret that by December 10 of each year the atmosphere can already be loaded with love manifested by the greetings we share, the beautiful carols that bring joy and happiness to our hearts and the memorable giftswe share. I have no doubt that this event will blissful.
Members of the Fourth Estate, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is an undeniable fact that the media and public in general in general have consistently played a pivotal role in the promotion of the National Excellence Awards. It is no doubt that the role of the media and society in general have contributed immensely in checkmating the various committees to ensure transparency and integrity in the overall execution of the previous events. In essence, the NCEC would like to take this opportunity to entreat the media and the public to do everything possible in their powers to play similar role in the 2016 edition of the National Excellence Awards.
