River Gee County Senator Mathew N. Jaye has declared support for the presidential bid of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai in the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
Vice President Joseph N. Boakai is the governing Unity Party’s presidential candidate in the 2017 election.
Jaye, who contested as an independent candidate and won the senatorial seat of River Gee County in 2011, has also declared his membership with the ruling Unity Party.
Making the declaration at a news conference at the Capitol Building in Monrovia Thursday, Jaye said the decision to support VP Boakai follows consultations with his family, political friends and some prominent citizens of River Gee County.
The River Gee County Senator has at the same time called on citizens of his county to join him in supporting Boakai in his quest for the presidency of Liberia.
Jaye described Boakai as “one of Liberia’s astute public servants” whose leadership will bring immense benefits to the people of Liberia.
Jaye believes that Boakai is “people-centered, well experienced, development oriented, credible as well as a man who is prepared and ready to take the leadership mantle of Liberia.”
