The Liberian Cabinet has mandated ministries, agencies, and commissions in concert with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to negotiate waiver of the country’s debt with international organizations.
The Cabinet is urging functionaries of government to “make a strong case” to effectively use for waiver of Liberia’s debts as of 2006 to date owed international organizations in light of pre-conflict and years riddled by turmoil.
According to an Executive Mansion release, the Cabinet decision follows update it received, among others, on Liberia’s financial obligations to international organizations.
The updates also include the agriculture sector with particularly reference to the recent visit of IFAD Executive Director to Liberia; ICT National Backbone Fiber Optic; the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine, and a situation report from Bomi County, among others.
Cabinet renewed its commitment to settling international obligations to ensure that Liberia’s continuous membership within the comity of nations is greeted with the highest respect it deserves.
In other decisions, Cabinet has announced the opening of a Book of Condolence for its fallen colleague, Dr. Edward B. McClain, Jr. Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, on Wednesday, August 17.
It said removal of body and wake-keeping will be on Saturday, August 20, and funeral on Monday, August 22, at the Providence Baptist Church.
Meanwhile, Cabinet also resolved to positively engage the National Legislature precisely on information-sharing about the administration’s achievements and the execution of major development projects across the country.
