Task Force Gets Tough, Issues List of Persons For GAC Report Compliance

The Special Presidential Task Force has released an initial list of ‘persons of interest’ for a compliance screening exercise on all General Auditing Commission (GAC) reports.

The Task Force clarified that those on the list are not currently being investigated by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) or prosecuted by the Ministry of Justice.

They include,Mary Togba, Cynthia Bropleh,  Idries Koromah, Thomas Peters, Bindu Brewer, Samuel Nagbe, Henri Urey, Samuel Kpakio, Christopher Bull, Andrew Gaye, Joseph Merchant, Bona Dangbuah, Marie Constance, Lawrence Zayzay, Samuel Danway and M. Jusufu Keita.

The release also named unremitted Government of Liberia withholding tax as City Printing Press, Business World, BAM Caterers, Robert Printing, T. Star Engineering, Renaissance Comm., L. B. S., Atlas Business Center and Edward Bowinkor Jr.

The release issued Monday, quotes the Minister of State without Portfolio and Chair of the Task Force, Cllr. Jonathan Koffa, as saying that the exercise begins effective Monday, June 6.

According to the release, Cllr. Koffa said these names will be updated every week depending on how those issues raised in the GAC reports are resolved.

The release emphasized that each person of interest has a period of 30 days to contact the office of the Minister of State without Portfolio responsible for compliance review to respond to the concerns raised in the GAC reports.

Meanwhile, the Task Force has clarified that the exercise is purely administrative, and not an investigatory or prosecutorial process.

“Our role is not to investigate and prosecute the GAC report. Our role at this point, is to do compliance screening, to assist the GAC in ensuring that answers to the questions that were left unanswered are resolved. If we find improprieties, we will refer those to the LACC,” the Task Force Chairman clarified.
