Cllr. Sherman Still Under House Arrest, As More Liberians Watched The Scene

Following the news that the Chairman of the ruling Unity Party (UP) and Grand Cape Mount Senator, Cllr. Sherman was placed under house arrest, a score of Liberians and foreign residents gathered at the residence of the ‘UP Strong Man’ to observe the drama.

Even though the whereabouts of Cllr. Sherman was still unknown, but some state security including the Emergency Response Unity (ERU) of the Liberia National Police backed with officers of both the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LAAC) and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

13240112_1291297827566788_521325966042282502_nThis move on the part of both the LRA and the LAAC to have their men deployed is in response to recent statement made by Cllr. Sherman on local radio station that the money which linked him to bribery and corruption was transferred into his personal account.

Cllr. Sherman who is at the center of center of the Global Witness bribery report linking several current and former high-profile government recently hit the country with several requesting those linked to appear before the recently appointed Special Presidential Taskforce by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Fonati Koffa who is also Minister of States, and at the same time filed a motion over the weekend to dismiss the subpoena in a bid to deny access to the accounts of his firm on grounds that there is no pending case that requires the firm to release its financial records.
