The Chairman of the ruling Unity Party, Cllr. Varney G. Sherman has disclosed that the leadership and members of the , and Grand Cape Mount SenatorCommenting the betrayal of the governing Unity Partyruling Unity Party (UP) has has already endorsed its vice standard-bearer, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai as the party’s next formidable choice in the 2017 presidential election.
Cllr. Sherman who is also Senator of Grand Caep Mount County in his recent interview with reporters blasted the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alex Tyler for not resigning his post as Speaker, since he has resigned from the Unity Party to contest the 2017 presidential election.
In a ratheer angry mood, the learned Liberian ledgal minds told reporters that the House Speaker’s resignation from the party is a betrayal of the struggle of the party, indicating that it was the Unity Party that made him to be where he is today as a key government official at the level of the Liberian Legislature where he serves as of the House of Representatives for the country.
He said it was Alex Tyler who led him to the formation of a merger that amalgamated the Liberia Action Party, the Liberia Unification Party and the Unity Party into a single political entity which has produced the leadership of the country.
The articulate Liberian corporate lawyer and chairman of the governing party expressed the sudden change of Speaker Tyler today which led to his resignation from the Unity Party and the establishment of his own Liberia Peoples Democratic Party (LPDP).
The Unity Party chairman emphatically stated that the action on the part of Mr. Tyler to establish a party on his own is a disservice to the governing party and a betrayal to the people of Liberia.
Cllr. Sherman asserted, “I fought twice for Tyler to make him to the most powerful speakership post of the House of Representatives, where Mr. Tyler is now enjoying the fruits of the governing Party”.
He reasoned that by the resignation of Speaker Tyler from the governing Unity Party he should as well resign from the post of Speaker because he is serving that position on the slot of and as a member of the Unity Party.
Instead however, the speaker though resigned from Unity Party but clinched himself to the Office of the House Speaker refusing to resign the post.
The Unity Party Chairman noted that that the speaker, Jeneka Alex Tyler, who is his personal friend resign from the unity party without informing him, neither did he had the courtesy at all to tell the party that made him influential in the society.
Mr. Sherman added, “If you are in that high confidential position of the party and leaving the party to go to create another party on your own, you should have the courtesy to inform the mother party,” wondering as to what impact and difference Tyler will make on his Liberia Peoples Democratic Party.
He reiterated that in politics there is honor, but added that there is even hope and future for those who may be disenchanted in the Unity Party, appealing to all partisans, supporters and well-wishers to be committed to the cause, ideals and loyalty of the governing party.
“You as a partisan of the party should try to remain steadfast because I honestly believe that … there are better days ahead of us…” he pleaded
Commenting on the party’s next standard-bearer for 2017, Cllr. Sherman said the Party has already endorsed the Vice Standard-bearer of the Unity Party as their formidable choice in the 2017 elections.
He explained that the endorsement of Vice President Boakai to take over the statesmanship in 2017 elections in Liberia is because the party believes in him that he can make Liberia better for all of us.
He proclaimed that Vice President Boakai is the party’s candidate for president of Liberia in 2017, cautioning all to rally around the Unity Party for its success in the 2017 process.
He asserted that “we want to assure you that come what ever may we shall remain member of the unity party”; ’stating’ we shall work and put up all of our boots, sneakers to campaign throughout the length and breadth of Liberia to campaign for our candidate Joseph Boakai.
