The Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy, Sheila Paskman, is calling on Government Public Relations Officers (PROs) to be proactive in putting information together.
Sheila said “as spokespersons we need to talk to our citizens in a way that they will understand some issues concerning government policies.”
She made the call Wednesday at a program marking the official opening of an 8-day working session with Government PROs, organized by the Ministry of Information in partnership with the U.S. Embassy at the ministry’s conference room.
Sheila noted that being a PRO is extremely rewarding, but that they need to put together information in a way that is clear and understandable for the public.
“We cannot have a democracy that everyday people do not know; what the government is doing in the country,” she explained.
She added: “Being a PRO is a great and respectable job; so in performing our job let us keep giving out information the right way.”
