Liberian Muslim Community Urged To Provide Academic Education For Female Children

The Grand Mufti of the Gurley Street Mosque has urged the Muslim Community in Liberia to provide academic education for their female children to prepare them to contribute to the socio- economic development of Liberia.

Sheihk Abubakar Somaworo noted that the education of girl children is critical to the overall development of Liberia, noting that women are major players in the nation-building process of any country.

He made the appeal Thursday at a special worship service marking ‘Eid Al-Adha’ which is celebrated annually by Muslims worldwide, at the Gurley Street Mosque in central Monrovia.

He noted that over the years the Muslim Community has neglected the education of their female children compared to their male children which, according to him, is counter-productive to the development of the vibrant nation that Liberia seeks to build.

Somaworo stressed that parents should train their children to be obedient to authorities and not abandon them in the streets. He then thanked the Liberian Government for working out modalities for 100 Liberian Muslims to attend the 2015 Hadj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
