The World Food Program (WFP) has promised continuous support towards Liberia's school feeding program, and livelihood with special emphasis on women in rural communities.
Presenting his Letter of Appointment, on Monday, June 29, 2015, Mr. Sory Ibrahim Ouane, WFP Representative-designate to Liberia has pledged to strengthen the collaboration between WFP and the Government of Liberia by providing support towards the school feeding program, and supporting livelihood with special emphasis on women in rural communities.
Mr. Ouane recalled that WFP was one of the good partners to Liberia in the fight against the Ebola virus disease and will continue to work with the Government of Liberia, adding "I am very delighted as a West African to contribute to the effort of Liberia".
Speaking earlier, H.E. Mr. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, congratulated Mr. Ouane for his preferment. Minister Ngafuan noted WFP strong partnership with Liberia throughout the civil crisis and after the crisis; during the ten years of peace and the Ebola outbreak.
The Foreign Minister said that WFP played a very critical role during the Ebola outbreak in assisting the Incident Management System by providing logistics, and food to critically needed sector of the population.
Minister Ngafuan expressed gratitude for WFP programs and expressed hope that WFP will continue to work with line ministries and agencies, and that Government's recovery plan can be assisted in ways that are relevant to WFP. The Foreign Minister emphasized that WFP assistance to the Ministry of Agriculture is of great help towards Liberia's food security program.
