LIBERIA: Court Sentences Man To 4 Years For Assaulting Police Officer

The Criminal Court “A” at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has sentenced Eric Bantuo, a resident of GSA Road, to four years in prison for stoning and wounding a police officer early this year.

Defendant Bantuo was on February 19 arrested by police for pelting a stone at police officer David Frank that left him seriously injured while trying to halt a protest Bantuo and others were engaged in.

According to court records, Officer Frank was subsequently taken to the St. Johnson Medical Clinic.

Handing down the final judgment Tuesday, Judge Roosevelt Willie said the judgment is based upon the evidence adduced during trial, the witnesses' testimonies and the unanimous guilty verdict of the jury.

Meanwhile, Judge Willie has ordered the Clerk of Court to issue a commitment against the defendant to serve his prison term at the Monrovia Central Prison.
