As part of its commitment to providing and improving road network through feeder roads and bridges construction and rehabilitation, Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) has commenced road rehabilitation of major public roads in Grand Kru ahead of this year’s July 26 Independence Day Celebration. The move by the company targets the Grand Kru Barclayville to Pleebo highway, as well as the construction of several bridges and roads linking major routes.
Both Grand Kru and Sinoe have been listed as venues for this year’s event. A release from Golden Veroleum Liberia said the exercise would benefit over 20 communities, along the Barclayville to Pleebo highways and further increased the free flow of vehicles movement as the county zoom in as co-host to the July 26 celebration. “Already, GVL road technicians have so far completed repair works on two of the most critical bridges along the road linking Geneken and Gblabroken, as well as a bridge linking Big-Swen to that of Grandcess,” GVL Spokesman Stephen Binda said.
According to Binda, the initiative is GVL own way of reaffirming its social corporate responsibility to Liberians in the Southeast by easing travel huddles particularly in Grand Kru. Dozens of local and international guests are expected to roam the corridors of Grand Kru and Sinoe counties though the both counties bag a history of bad roads accessibility.
“Constructing new roads and helping to maintain and improve road accessibility is our corporate social responsibilities to affected communities,” Binda said. “We see ourselves as part of the local community and we will continue working with the locals in making life better in the Southeast.”
Records show that the Barclayville-Pleebo highway was one of the difficult highways in Grand Kru especially during raining seasons. Several travelers stayed more than two days before getting to Barclayville from Pleebo and back. To date, GVL has constructed several new roads and rehabilitated several other feeder roads in Grand Kru including a 4.3 kilo meter new road linking Gbanken to Zoloken and Ylatwen to Gbanken in Wedabo/Grandcess Statutory District. Others include, the 20.5km new road connecting Garraway-Geneken to Po-River Middle Town, Big Town and Waterside, inclusive of a 5.4km rehabilitated road connecting Weteken to Andrewville and that of Wilsonville in the Grand Kru Garraway region.
