LIBERIA: ELECTION NEWS UPDATE – Polling Centers Visually ‘Half Mark’ Empty, Police Arrest Vehicle With A Ballot Box

Various polling centers visited by a team of GNN reporters saw many of the polling centers emptied, some voters who spoke to reporters said many kept away from the polling centers because of the early hour circulation of some leaflets around the city calling on people to stay away.

Others also spoke to, said they were staying out of the process because of the current outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus, noting, “We are staying away to avoid being among lots of crowds that may cause some of us to come in contact of the virus,” John Sumo believed to be in his late 30s in an interview told our reporter.

At the same time Police in Monrovia have arrested a taxi driver who was reportedly carrying in his vehicle ballot  box, and is now being questioned at the headquarters of theLiberia National Police.

Our reporter saw two of the major contenders, George Weah and Robert Sirleaf in high gear casting their ballots are their respective polling centers.

People who are queued are many of the polling centers took all the necessary preventive measures including the washing of their hands and the taken of the temperature before entering the polling center.

Reports from various leeward counties and carried live on local radio stations said low turnout of voters at most of the polling centers  in these counties are visible, linking this to fears of encountering any affected individuals of the virus.

Amusement centers in Monrovia were overloaded with lots of people enjoying their favorite drinks not taken cue of today’s purpose; Election Day.
