In the midst of Ebola, Liberia’s flag amongst 21 other nations to parade in Sinaloa, Mexico

Liberia national Amputee Football Team, a triple champion for Africa, along with Sierra Leone Amputee football teams will not be participating in the 2014 Amputee Football World Cup due to the Ebola outbreak. Even though the Liberia Amputee football team may not be seeing on the footpall pitch in Sinaloa, Mexico, the country red, white and blue will be paraded by its international coordinator, Duannah Siryon, during the opening ceremony of the tournament.

Mr. Siryon, who resides in Minnesota, USA, will represent Liberia at this year Amputee World Cup Congress scheduled for December 3, 2014. The festival commences from November 30 through December 8, 2014.

Besides voting on behalf of Liberia at the congress, Mr. Siryon, along with other African participating countries, will also make the case for Liberia to host the next Amputee Football World Cup schedule in late November, 2016. Additionally, Mr. Siryon, amongst other things, will advocate for Liberia representation on the executive committee of the World Amputee Football Federation.

Like FIFA, the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) is an international membership based football (soccer) organization responsible to organize international and continental Amputee football (

Since 1984, WAFF has continuously hosted international, continental and regional football competitions. The most recent one was in Russia in 2012 ( where Liberia was represented in full alongside Dionysius Segbwe, the then Liberia Deputy Minister for sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Mexico defeated Liberia in the bid to host the 2014 World Cup.

Mr. Melvin Gotteh, president of the Liberia Amputee Federation commanded the president of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the national legislature for the level of support and confidence reposed in the organization since its establishment. Mr. Gotteh encouraged his members to be hopeful that Mr. Siryon will provide a competitive argument in Mexico.

Also making remark during a special called leadership meeting was Mr. Samuel Eastman, Secretary General of the Liberia Amputee federation. Mr. Eastman urged his collogues to be caution of the deadly Ebola disease and be prepare to take all safety measures.

The Liberia Amputees Football Team was established to embrace healing after a long and devastated civil war that destroyed lives and properties. Since its inception, the team has received numerous international, regional and local recognitions and is gradually becoming Liberia’s pride.
