The Grand Gedeh chapter of the National Traditional Council of Liberia has suspended the traditional kola nut ceremony held to welcome a guest.
The Council said this was necessary as a measure to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus in the county.
This was disclosed by Paramount Chief Peter Garwo, Secretary of the Council, at the just-ended Civic and Voter Education and Gender Regional Consultative workshop held in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
Speaking at the formal opening of the workshop organized by the National Elections Commission (NEC), Chief Garwo noted that the decision of the council was prudent as it was imperative to suspend traditional practices that could spread the Ebola virus.
He commended NEC for the workshop which, according to him, has provided them basic knowledge about the conduct of the Special Senatorial Elections slated for December 16.
