LIBERIA: President Johnson Sirleaf’s Son Accepts Petition To Join Montserrado Senatorial Race

The former Chairman of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), and son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Mr. Robert Allen Sirleaf, has accepted a petition to contest the Montserrado County senatorial seat in the October Mid-term election.Speaking at the petitioning ceremony in Monrovia Wednesday,

Sirleaf promised to work to improve the living condition of citizens of Montserrado County when elected as their Senator.He said the Montserrado County citizens petitioned him to represent them in the National Legislature because they are aware of his ability to meet their basic needs, especially in the areas of education, youth empowerment and community development.

Mr. Sirleaf said improvement of the road networks throughout the county remains a major challenge, and promised to ensure that as Senator the roads will be upgraded.In a two-page statement read at a well-attended program, Mr. Sirleaf, who is a son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, said youth development in the county would be his paramount concern.

He pointed out that Liberian youths will be provided high speed internet and computers in the various communities to sharpen their minds and horizons.Mr. Sirleaf was also recently petitioned by a group calling itself “Montserrado Redemption Squad’’ to contest the Montserrado County Mid-term Senatorial Election.
