LIBERIA: FDA Drill Leaders In Forest Rights Law

The NGO Prosper, in partnership with the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), ended a two-day Community Rights Law with a call for greater understanding of the laws by various forest communities.

The workshop, held at the Youth Center on Fair Ground in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa, brought together community leaders from Barkonee in Buchanan and Kpowein, District 4, Grand Bassa County.

During the program, participants were drilled on how to manage their forests under the Community Rights Law of 2009, according to the Liberia News Agency.

At the close of the workshop, participants said they were returning home prepared to explain their people how to protect their forests, put forward road projects and form demarcation or boundary lines within the forest.

For the FDA, Gertrude Hans said it is important to extend the Community Rights Law to other communities around the country.

She thanked participants for attending the workshop and also recommended the extension of the awareness campaign to other areas because many others do not know about the Community Rights Law.
