The Managing Director of the National Port Authority Hon. Matilda W. Parker cautioned the new Leadership of the African Methodist Episcopal University Alumni Association to lead with honesty and respect. “Lead with some level of transparency, honesty and respect”, Madam Parker told the newly inducted leadership of the African Methodist Episcopal University Alumni Association. The NPA boss made the comments on Friday, February 28, 2014 when she served as keynote speaker at the Association's induction ceremony at the African Methodist Episcopal University on Champ Johnson Road in Monrovia.
The NPA Managing Director furthered that a good leader is one who leads his subjects with fairness and confidence. She called on the new leadership to have empathy for the people they lead as a “good leader is not just an effective manager but is always willing to listen to the plight of his/her people”, this according to her can in no way amount to weakness. Quoting Douglas MacArthur a USA World War II army general, Madam Parker mentioned that a “leader is one who has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions and the compassion to listen to the needs of others” she noted. She then beseeched the leadership to work as a team and called on the President to treat each member of his leadership with fairness, and should neither bully nor show undue favoritism to a particular person(s).
For his part the President of the AME University Alumina Association Mr. Robert H. Kpan assured his Colleagues that his administration will seek the welfare of all members of the association regardless of their economic, political and social status in the society. Mr. Kpan promised the full cooperation of the Alumni Association in working with the administration for the up-liftment of the University.
In his remarks, the President of the African Methodist Episcopal University, Dr. Joseph Isaac lauded the new leadership of the Alumni Association, and promised a smooth working relationship with the association. Dr. Isaac announced that his administration has appointed a focal person for the Alumni Association that will served as liaison between the administration of the University and the Alumni Association. He disclosed that the Board of Trustees of the AME University has allotted a seat to the association on the university board and has also given a colum on the University’s website to the Alumni Association.
