Thieves have broken into the Robertsport Magisterial Court in Grand Cape Mount County, according to Senior Associate Magistrate Robert B. Shannon.
He said the burglars made away with many items, including ‘Fruits of Crimes’ (FOC) that were produced in court by complainants.
Magistrate Shannon said he was convinced that the court was broken into by some unscrupulous elements who want to destroy evidences that were introduced in cases before the court.
Magistrate Shannon told the Liberia News Agency Thursday in Robertsport that the burglars had easy access to the building, which also houses the County Superintendent’s Office, Gender and Development Ministry, Planning and LISGIS, because there is no security assigned there at night.
Magistrate Shannon is, therefore, appealing to the Ministry of Justice to provide adequate security for the building to curb recurrence of the act.
He said cases adjudicated by the court in 2013 included rape, aggravated and simple assaults, robbery, theft of property and action of debt, among others.
Meanwhile, the Clerk of the Traffic Court in Robertsport, Joseph K. White, has disclosed that 20 accident cases were brought before the court in 2013.
He said of this number, four cases were transferred to the 5th Judicial Circuit Court, because they involved deaths of commuters.
White told the Liberia News Agency Wednesday that 16 persons were found guilty and sent to prison in connection to the accidents.
