LIBERIA: UNDP Country Director Visits Defense Minister

The Country Director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Dr. Kamil Kamaluddeen, expressed his happiness to be back in Liberia. Dr. Kamaluddeen further pointed out, “It is always a pleasure to touch bases with good friends.” The UNDP Country Director indicated that his job is to help post war Liberia in its recovery process, stressing that there are many challenges that can be solved collaboratively. He emphasized that his intentions are to continue the existing ties between his entity and Liberia and at the same time to seek support from other partners. Dr. Kamil Kamaluddeen made these assertions at the Barclay Training Center when he paid a working visit on the Minister of National Defense. In his welcoming remarks, the Minister of National Defense, Brownie J. Samukai Jr., said that Liberia is opened to Dr. Kamaluddeen, particularly, the Ministry of National Defense. Minister Samukai lauded UNDP for its role regarding the pension scheme of the Armed Forces of Liberia. He further added that UNDP suggestions have been very helpful in the development of the pension scheme. The Defense Boss further acknowledged the vital contributions of UNDP to Liberia recovery process most especially, the security sector.
