LIBERIA: Journalist Othello Yarsiah Makes Final Journey Saturday

The remains of fallen Liberian journalist Othello T. K. Yarsiah will be interred on Saturday, September 7, 2013 after he passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013.Othello succumbed to liver complications, following weeks of illness, and was seeking medication at the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital in Tapita, Nimba County until his demise.

According to his family, a book of condolence will be opened on Friday at the St. Moses Funeral Home on Somalia Drive, running from 5PM to 7Pm. This will be followed by a Silent Wake at the deceased’s residence in Bardnersville Estate, Behind Area-F, beginning 9PM.

Funeral will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Bardnersville Lutheran Church in Bardnersville Estate, Behind Area-F, starting at 9AM, followed by interment at the Bardnersville Cemetery, adjacent the Bardnersville Lutheran Church.

Othello was one of the country’s professional and prized journalists who significantly contributed to the profession and the attainment of peace in Liberia through his work, the Press Union of Liberia has said.

The renowned broadcast journalist spent more than 30 years in the media, working for several institutions locally and internationally including ELWA, state radio ELBC, Talking Drum Studio, and UNMIL Radio.

He was among the first team of journalists recruited to set up and run UNMIL radio in 2003, moved to Sudan in 2007 to run another UN radio there, earned his Master’s before returning home in 2010 to contribute to the rebuilding of his country.

Othello took sick after he recently helped set up Bushrod Radio (Radio D-15) on Bushrod Island, and will be buried on Saturday, September 7 in Bardnersville Township. He died at 48.
